Bard stronghold quest, has barely started and it's over?

in Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition
Another of my bard playthroughs, but with bug which I never experienced before.

Received the deed, had to come back to Higgold after a few days.
I came back, but Higgold says: "we had our chance but it didn't please Lord Tanislove or the audience".
Journal entry changes instantly from a reminder to go back to Five Flagons to bad ending.

Is it possible to fix it in shadowkeeper?

(my BG2EE version is from Steam, patched up to date. I do not have any mods installed except for Ding0 exp fixer, which never caused problems)

    Bards just have very low expectations.

    Meck appeared and now I have two copies of Higgold...
    But quest is going well with usual "greetings, my patron".

    Some scripting got seriously scrwed up there. Start a thread in Troubleshooting and upload your save, someone can look at it there.
