Does Dings have a use?

Just been offered the cat "Dings". Does it have a use or is it OK to not accept?

Minsc expressed concern at the offer, is there any further dialogue or more if you do accept?

Its okay to not accept. He doesn't have any real use. I think if you take him, and then return him, you MIGHT get an item for it. But I could also be remembering wrong.

I'm not entirely sure, but I think I heard somewhere that he catches rats and brings their skeletons to you.
