How do i install Ascension?

Hello! me and my friends are playing through bg2ee and having a blast. We are near the last half and when we are done with the main campaign i'm thinking that we will move to TOB.

I've never played TOB but I've heard Ascension makes it a lot better, and is semi official. Is there a version that is compatible with EE? how do I install it? Do we need to install it on every game?

Also, on difficulty, we are playing the main campaign on hard, sans the bonus damage, and mostly blasting through it, I've heard ascension is very difficult, whats the recommended difficulty?
