If you're interested in gaining a deeper understanding of Candlekeep (especially its austere social structure and culture), Ed Greenwood's "An Introduction to Candlekeep" is an excellent piece of Realmslore. It clarifies a lot of things that didn't seem to make sense (like the so-called 10,000 GP entrance fee). Greenwood's narrative-style certainly makes for an enjoyable read.
As I was reading this, I kept thinking about how seemingly-impossible it would be for any chaotically-aligned character to make it to the ripe age of 20 without incurring some sort of draconian punishment along the way. I would think most chaotics would either suffer execution or expulsion beforehand, despite being Gorion's ward.
I'm interested in hearing others' thoughts on this text (especially if you plan to play a chaotic PC).
