Proximity based voice chat in NWN:EE - ideas how to accomplish?

Hey guys,
Is there a way you geniuses can think of introducing proximity-based voice chat for NWN:EE in PW's? Maybe by integrating a third-party software? It could simply be location-based. It's not an ideal system, but I was thinking of the following low-tech solution:
It starts with a log which records player's area, I'm sure that can be relatively easily accomplished.
Then, a teamspeak server which has the same areas list as the server. The teamspeak server takes as input "Area" from some log of NWN:EE and transfers the user in the teamspeak server to the group chat of that area.
What do you think? Is it even achievable?
By the way, this is NOT a discussion about the merits/disadvantages of proximity-based voice chat. For this, please create another thread.

This is just one option, I'm sure there's others. If there's "popular demand", it can certainly be looked into.
I wonder how can it even work with a game that's "areas based" like NWN, you'd first need to take the "area" the player is in into consideration before even talking about position. Hmm. Maybe that is also addressed in Mumble... I'll start exploring this.
