Andrune: A Dark Fantasy Roleplaying World

Andrune is a dark fantasy world which ran from roughly 2008 to 2013. Our goal is to create a server very much like a D&D campaign, where player-characters, and their choices, determine how the story will go. We are set in a non-cannon isle in Forgotten Realms, which draws heavily from Celtic mythology and classic fairy tales.

Setting:
Once, Andrune was an isle east of Faerun, brimming with natural resources and ancient magic. Two centuries ago it was conquered by a wizard called the Exile. He founded the City of Avendel, and went on to craft wonders of alchemy and engineering in the name of human achievement. But Andrune's glory soon faded. The isle's natives, men and elves, rose in rebellion against their godless masters. Druids awoke ancient fey and savage gods to crush the wizard-city to dust.

Now, the isle is ravaged by civil war and capricious fey. From across the sea adventurers, merchants, and pirates have rushed to its shores in search of profit and spoils. Bodkin, a tiny riverside castle, remains the last bastion of civility in the war-torn highlands. Already friction has grown between the ancient line of House Rowley and Faerunian explorers...


Features:
-Animal companions must be tamed using animal empathy. We have a number of unique options you can find in the world such as basilisk, salamander, and sabercat.
-Polymorph and wild shape are expanded to feature over 60 shapes, some of which are unlocked via transmutation focus.
-Unique bard songs can be found throughout the world. This includes the the Hellish Harmony, which summons a demon, or the Leeching Limerick which grants allies a life-drain attack.
-Summon creature includes options such as constructs, elementals, and fiends.
-Characters can take subclasses. This includes a stalker-themed ranger who can vanish in natural areas, and a shapechanging barbarian who becomes a wolf.


Vision:
-A detailed world. Andrune should be enjoyable to explore solo or with a group. There will be secrets and lore to uncover even without a DM. Treasure and loot are specially tailored for each adventure: you won't find goblin chamber pots in a kobold lair.

-High-magic, but low-powered. Andrune is a fantastic place, but we are focused on low level play ranging from 4th to 12th level. Life is short, and it should not take years to catch up with (or even surpass) established heroes and villains. We want Combat to be exciting, and every last potion to count. We have added subclasses, and reduced prestige class requirements for build variety.

-Character Customization. You can change your clothing, portrait, and description on the fly. Subraces are not supported, but there are subclasses to fit almost any character. This includes a werewolf-barbarian who can shapeshift, a diabolist-sorcerer who can summon fiends and drain life, and an entrepreneurial-rogue who can hire thugs. It should be as easy for you to play the character you want, without making special requests.

-No downloads required. Andrune does not use haks. Instead, we have made the most of core NWN assets and scripts to bring our areas to life. (As a caveat, with the advent of NWSYNC we may implement a small hak in the future).

    Andrune's beta launch will be starting this weekend. I don't intend to clear the server-vault unless things are egregiously broken. If anyone is interested in checking us out, you will be able to keep your character long-term. That being said a lot of our systems and balancing have not been checked out in the larger ecosystem. There may be a few bugs to work out, or you may be leveling slower or faster than intended. If something is not working well I encourage you to bring it up on our discord.

    Server Launch Event
    For the launch of the server we will be holding an event on Saturday, November 3rd, at 3 pm EST. All are welcome. You can visit our forums or discord if you need advice on making a character.

    A ragtag band of explorers, fortune-seekers, and fugitives have found themselves in the riverside village of Bodkin. The Rowley family and their allies have been offering wealth and parsels of land to anyone willing to brave the ocean voyage. The village has turned out to be a miserable backwater, and its rulers dwell in a crumbling hall. You've spent some days doing odd jobs and wallowing in drink, when suddenly Redbranch Hall has put the word out for fighting men and women. It seems they want you to recover a wedding present to a former ally... an old tapestry.

    For Interests Developers:
    Andrune has been developed by a small team for a very long time. As most of us have less time than we used to, we'd like to begin bringing on new builders and DMs. Anyone who feels like the project matches their interests is welcome to join up. Generally speaking Andrune is the sort of setting where you're more liable to face hags and fey than drow and demons. One goal is to keep things gritty, and encourage conflict between different characters and factions. Obviously we'd have to discuss what your scope is and start with incrementally larger building and DMing projects.
