Question about the journal

in Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition
So I'm a new player, never even been to Nashkel mines yet. Had a bunch of quests in my journal, and, since I wanted to end Jaheira's incessant whining about going to Nashkel (And also keep her, after looking it up i realized if i didnt go, she and Khalid would leave), I decided I'd quickly rush to the city to shut her up, and then go back for the quests. But after arriving in Nashkel, all the quests in my journal were gone! Is this a bug, or intended, or what? Is it possible to get them back, without loading a file from before I went to Nashkel?

    You just arrived in Chapter 2 and you do not have any quest in that chapter yet, that is why your journal seems empty. There are buttons in the journal to go back to previous chapters where all your quests are listed.

    Oh! Thank you very much, I thought that was just a visual thing telling you where you were in relation to the game, not anything you could interact with.
