Black screen on start-up

When I start the game, the start-up screen flashes visible for a second, after which I get a black screen. The music plays on the background and I can see the hand cursor, but everything else is black.

I have Ati Radeon 5785 and Samsung SyncMaster 228 BW screen.

    Also, I have Windows 7 Pro. I uninstalled the game and re-installed it but it did not help.

    You got more than me. I don't even get the flash of start-up screen.

    Okay. Fixed it. I opened the Intel and Media Control Panel, clicked 3D, Custom Settings, and changed Anisotropic Filtering to 8x, Vertex Processing to Enable Software Processing, and Vertical Sync to On!

    Hey, thanks! I got it to work by changing anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering to "use software preferencies" :)
