(True) Neutral alignment in BG/2e

Could use some help here regarding (True) Neutral alignment in 2e.
From 2e's description, it seems like they completely went with a single aspect of neutral, as in a character that commits himself philosophically to neutrality. Now reading 3e's description that's just one way of playing a neutral char.
My question is under what alignment would a normal neutral character from 3e fit under 2e?
You know, a neutral char that's basically:
"A neutral character does what seems to be a good idea. She doesn't feel strongly one way or the other when it comes to good vs. evil or law vs. chaos. Most neutral characters exhibit a lack of conviction or bias rather than a commitment to neutrality. Such a character thinks of good as better than evil-after all, she would rather have good neighbors and rulers than evil ones. Still, she's not personally committed to upholding good in any abstract or universal way."

The alignment's the same. The alignment descriptions in 2e (and thus in BG) describe the "paragons", so to speak, of each alignment. So the paragon of neutrality would be someone who devotes themselves wholly to the idea of being neutral. 3e, on the other hand, describes what is assumed to be the "average" member of a given alignment.

(Note that this is just an RP explanation--the alignments don't actually do anything in the game apart from determine your starting reputation and how you're affected by certain alignment-specific spells.)
