Multiplayer not working

When I try to join my friend's game the music stops right when I click the button. My friend experiences the same thing when I host and he attempts to join me. Firewall alerts popped up but we let the game through, so that's not it. It just doesn't seem to work at all. I'm Win on 7 64-bit and he is on Vista.

Single player works fine for me so far.

Anyone experiencing the same problem?

Yeah - me and my friend are trying to connect, both of us have allowed the games through and they don't work (we're both using Windows 7).

Same here. Does yours lock up when you try to join?

Same problem here. The game locks up. Force closing it the first time caused a blue screen on Windows 7 x64.

Edit: I was using a single-player saved game that I moved to the multiplayer directory. Bad idea apparently. A clean new game worked fine.

Gah, I must say, I really wanted BGEE to do well. But multiplayer being broke from the start is doin nothing for the previous sentiment. Surely they knew this would be the case. Not looking good Overhaul, not at all...

Some people have reported success playing multiplayer by using Tunngle (http://www.tunngle.net/). Of course the game shouldn't lock up when it can't connect, that's a serious bug and is currently under investigation.

I have tried using a virtual IP through tunngle, that didn't work either. Although we really shouldn't have to rely on a third party program just to connect to other players.

Have any of you tried adding the ports?

Until things get patched...you may very well have to rely on 3rd party. You may want to read all those other threads of people who are also having the same problem as you. It may help you.

I have tried all the old standbys from back in the day that helped the original BG. Game Ranger , Himachi and this new one Tunngle...MP is thoroughly broken from every angle for me. It crashes when you try to connect. At a very basic level of error handling, you should at most get an error message. Crashing just reinforces the notion that BG2EE is currently broken for the best part of the game.

Yes, did not help. Game still crashes when trying to connect.

    Firewall?

Firewall is set to accept everything concerning BG. But even if it blocked the connection attempt the game should not crash.
