My game crashes when I try to use a melee weapon and a shield

I've had no issues like this so far in my current game, and I've never had any problem like this before.
But the game now crashes whenever I try to have my character use a melee weapon and a shield. It doesn't matter what weapon I'm using or what shield I'm using; the moment I try to have my player character use both, the game crashes. There are no issues when any member of my party tries to use a melee weapon and a shield. It's just my player character who this happens with. I'm a 14th level fighter who dual-classed from an 8th level thief. My party consists of Saerileth, Kelsey and Valyger. I've just started the planar sphere sidequest, and the issue arose right before I was going to add the head to the golem.
