Quest missing from journal log....

I have started a new character and have played through the prologue. I am just outside the Academy where Aribeth is located. I spoke to the little girl (Bethany) right outside, and the saved my game. I just went back to play my character, and currently I have no quests listed in my journal/quest log. Seeing this, I spoke to Bethany again, from what she says and from what conversation options I am given to work with, it is apparent from all of that, that I should have the Peninsula quest listed on my quest log. But my quest log is empty. Is this a glitch in the game? Help!
