Sleeping is curing level drain?

From reading online, I thought you needed a restoration spell to cure level drain? I'm playing normal difficulty and sleeping just cured level drain. Is that because of normal difficulty or is that how it always works?

    i've never seen resting cure level drain, are you playing with mods?

    Is it definitely Level Drain and not Ability Score Drain? The two icons look similar and have confused me in the past.
