Crashes Immediately Upon Starting New Game

Anytime I try to start a new game, whether in multiplayer or single player, the game crashes to the desktop with a "Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition has stopped working" error. I'm running Windows 8 on a Late 2009 model Mac Mini (fully booted into Windows in Boot Camp, not on a virtual desktop). What could be causing that error?

Windows 8 is not officially supported in Bootcamp. Only Windows 7 is. Since Apple provides the graphics drivers (as part of the Boot camp extras), you are inviting trouble by installing an unsupported version of Windows.

You were absolutely right. Fortunately, there are guides to installing updated drivers, and doing that completely fixed the game for me. I just had to install one updated video driver and the game immediately worked (which is just ridiculously stupid on my part, considering I've been playing PC games for 20 years now and the first step is ALWAYS check your video driver).
