Question about archers in BG:EE

In BG2, archers could place as many as 5 prof points in bows and crossbows. However, when attempting to create an archer in BG:EE, I was only able to place 2 prof points in any weapon. I also noticed that I could now specialize in melee weapons, whereas in BG2 an archer could only be proficient in melee weapons.

My question is, will I be able to add more prof points to bows or crossbows as I move up in levels, or are they maxed at 2 each?

    You'll gain more proficiency points as levels progress.

    Warrior classes are capped at 2 points per weapon at level 1, and only at level 1.

    Indeed, wasn't this also the case in the original BG1?
