Severe bug in Siege of Dragonspear that no one in existence will experience except me

Seriously you have to be an experimentative weirdo to run into this.

In Baldur's Gate in the Three Old Kegs on the third floor, you can run into Delenda in a room to the south. She is angry that you've barged into her room uninvited, and if you continue to upset her she will call for her bodyguard Bartleby. If you speak politely to him and don't act intimidating, he will feel confident that he can take you on, and will attack if you remain in her room too long. Killing him gets you his unique Bartleby's Wakizashi, and the inn's "bouncer" Ithtyl Calantryn teleports in to see what all the noise was. If you're not charismatic enough you're likely to lose a point of reputation for killing him.

But I remembered that Ithtyl was wandering around on the floor below, and I wondered what would happen if I killed Bartleby right in front of her.

I made sure hostile Bartleby was following me and led him down to the second floor. The patrons seemed upset that fighting was happening nearby but nobody else went hostile. I killed him and...Ithtyl didn't seem to care.

I went back upstairs, and after a couple seconds the game went into "cutscene mode" and locked up completely. I mean, animations and such were still happening by my controls were completely non-functional, couldn't pause to quit out or anything. Had to force close the game.

Video here:

This is on console but I'm fairly sure this will happen on all releases of Siege. Not sure what will happen to the controls on those, if quitting would still be possible or if it's also a full lock.

I looked at the scripting and I think I know why this is happening.

The script for Ithtyl's cutscene only runs when you're on the third floor (BD0108.ARE).

But Ithtyl is set to teleport in at an offset near Bartleby's corpse...and that's down on the second floor, where she can't reach you to talk to you. So it just locks up.

If you get yourself into this situation, the only way to gain access to the third floor again without the game hanging is to go kill Ithtyl (because the script checks to make sure she's alive).

Steps to reproduce:
  • Play Siege of Dragonspear up to the point where you can travel around Baldur's Gate city
  • Travel to the Three Old Kegs map
  • Enter the Three Old Kegs and go up the stairs twice to the third floor
  • Go to the far south room and speak to Delenda
  • Say "You should post a guard if you want to keep people out. It's customary around these parts."
  • Advance dialogue and wait for Bartleby to arrive
  • Say "I'm done here anyway."
  • Say "There's no need for violence. I'm going."
  • Either wait a few seconds in the room or speak to Bartleby again
  • When Bartleby is hostile to you, leave the room and head toward the stairs, making sure he is following you
  • Go down the stairs and Bartleby should appear next to you shortly
  • Kill Bartleby
  • Go back upstairs to the third floor
