Fullscreen mode broken in Windows 8

When I start the game on fullscreen mode, the view is zoomed in so close so that only a portion of the screen is visible. I'm able to click on "Graphics" (which is off-screen) and turn off fullscreen mode. After this the problem goes away.

Is there any way to fix this problem? I really want to run the game on fullscreen mode.

I'm currently running it on Windows 8 using a 15" retina Macbook Pro. Current resolution is 1920 x 1200.

    It probably has nothing to do with Windows 8. Please check that your drivers are up-to-date.

    Why would you use Windows 8? Did someone force you at gun point? You should inform teh authorities.

    @Zeckul
    Just checked my drivers and they're up to date. I've had the same problem with other games before (Dishonored, XCom) but Windows always corrects it automatically after I exit and restart the game.

    Haha it seemed like a good idea at the time. The new Start menu looked interesting.

    I use Windows 8 and I can play Baldur's Gate in fullscreen. I can also zoom in and out with ease. Although I am not using a mac computer running Windows 8. Just pointing out it's not the operating system in itself that is giving you grief.

    The problem is not Windows 8, but that the game apparently resizes to the native screen resolution when in fullscreen mode. With a retina display this is 2880×1800, and that is the reason you're only seeing part of the game screen.

    I have the same problem on my MacBook 15" retina and Windows 8.

    Found a solution for myself here. I am using three monitors. I guess somehow my main monitor was set to a resolution above what it could handle. I do not recall setting it this way but w/e. adjusting to the (recommended) setting fixed the issue for me. Also Windows 8 here.

    Another odd thing was I went back in to look at my resolution again the higher resolution is gone now. (recommended) is the highest available output for me. Weird.

    I have Windows 7 Pro SP1, a Dell FPW2405 24" 1920x1200 monitor, and it appears "zoomed" to me also. I don't know what resolution it thinks I am at but my desktop is 1920x1200. This is what it looks like:

    I'm also running on a Macbook Pro Retina 15", Windows 7 Pro (fully updated) and I'm getting the same issue. Running at native resolution, and the game looks great in window mode. I'm wondering if it might be to do with the Nvidia control software. Will mess with it later...

    Fixed it! Heard this from a newer thread: just set the text size to 100% (mine was at 150%). That will make the game work properly in fullscreen mode.

    I found a better solution. Right-click Baldur.exe, select Properties, then Compatibility, and check "Disable display scaling on high DPI settings." That way you can keep your text size at 150% if you wish and still enjoy the game. This is all the FAQ now: http://forum.baldursgate.com/discussion/8405/read-before-posting-master-technical-faq
