Bug With Ama's Ambush

When Greshal approaches, he turns towards the nearest party member as if to talk and then just stands there. Nothing happens. Greshal and Ama stay blue and their backup never appears. The cursor blinks and Gershal and whoever he's facing keep turning towards each other. I seem to remember that this behavior indicates a broken dialogue, but it's been about fifteen years since I last played BG. I can attack the two, but there is no journal update after killling them.

I am playing BGT, with the mod that allows companions to take strongholds. Jan replaced Mae'Var. Does anyone know how to deal with this bug, or the variable for completing this quest?
