Creating new custom item

When I have created a new custom item in a module, why does it not show up in the custom items selection menu when I want to add it to the inventory of a placeable in another module? Does this mean that new items are available only to the module in which they are created?

Exactly that.

You can export the custom item, then import it to another module.

If the item uses a custom model / textures, that must be added to the second module, too.
