Hello,
I wonder if there is a way to remove the sword from the poor fool without killing him or sending him to his death in Candlemas. I guess not, but just in case...

    Can't guarantee there isn't any but haven't been able to find it. None of the significant NPCs in the area seem to have any conversation options that would help.

    I wish there was a way. It kinda looks like there should be one.

    Yeah, I kinda wish there was a way too. In keeping with D&D lore, various ways to do so would be to cast Protection from Good/Evil (or, if you were feeling generous, Mind Blank) on the victim; this prevents any sort of mind-controlling magic from working on the target. From there, if the item is cursed (it wasn't in this case. This was a case of a wielder losing the mental battle to control a sentient weapon), a Remove Curse spell will suffice to allow the victim to get rid of the item.
