What is equipment modifier?

In wiki says: Wild Surge may also occur at 5% chance when casting other memorized spells, the process is the same as above, with the exception of Wild Mage’s level not taking into account, so it’s just d100 vs. Chaos Shield Improved Chaos Shield modifier + Equipment modifier. I look everywhere, but cant find what this modifier is, is it AC or Thac0, or something else?

    I never really used Wild Mages, but I think there are certain Wild Mage-specific equipment that affects their chances of wild surging, so it could be related to that.

    There's one piece of equipment in the standard game that has that modifier: the Thayan Circlet, available in the ToB portion of Neera's quest.
    There's also a robe in the SoA portion of Neera's quest that grants permanent Chaos shield. Nothing in BGEE.
