Sounds crashing toolset all over the place.

I posted in another thread after the last update where I, as a Mac user on WINE, was asked to delete or rename an OAL32 file ( can't remember exactly as its now gone !) file by Julius as the toolset was crashing because of the update.
The file we were asked to delete/rename concerns "Open Audio Language" I believe. Since then I have taken out some custom sounds I used in the module I am working on and the crashes have largely stopped. ( Nothing wrong with the files - they worked perfectly before this). To test it out I went to the Advanced tab in Properties and changed an animal's soundset from cat to tiger . Immediate crash of the module. Repeated every time.
The problem now is that I cant alter ANY sounds without a crash. Ambient music, custom sounds, even changing the voice from cat to dog - it all immediately crashes the toolset.
So, my question is, what exactly did that file do and now that it's gone what file should be doing its work or is there a file I could add?
