Trying to stop sound effect from playing

Some opcodes seem to have built in sound effects that are hard coded.

One example is the Freedom opcode 212. When effective it plays EFF_E02.wav which is the abjuration expiration sound effect. I'm trying to make a number of effects running in the background that rely on the function from this opcode. To hear this sound effect trigger all the time is very annoying.

Is there a clean way to override this? I have tried immunty to effect: play sound, but to no avail. I also don't want to mute the specific sound file as it is linked to many spells and abilities in the game.

Any helpful ideas would be appreciated!
