Level Up issues

Hi I'm on Mac os 10.15 playing NWN multiplayer game of the original campaign.
My brother is also playing as well and can't seem to level up consistently. It just won't let him. He leveled once and then can't level to 3. My override folder is empty so there is nothing there that could be interfering.
Any suggestions?
