BG:EE Multiplayer disonnect bug on save

in Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition
Hi, we are having a consistent issue in BG:EE multiplayer. Most of the time the game saves the second player (non-host) gets kicked out of the game. We are quite far into the game (reached Baldur's Gate) and it's getting quite impossible to continue. Is there anything that can be done outside of restarting the game? Thanks
