NPC Quest Timers

Do the NPC quest timers run whilst they're not in the party? From experience it looks like the answer is sometimes, but would be good to know.

I've currently got Anomen and Edwin in my group. I'm currently waiting on Ano to get called for his test (which he might fail, ha ha) and Edwin to do whatever it is he does with the Nether Scroll. As I'm running out of stuff to do before I'm ready to move on with the plot it would be good to have someone else in the group - maybe help Jan or investigate what's going on at the Umar hills (for which I might want some different party members) - then come back and finish off their storylines.

    Timers do run while the character is outside the party, yes. Or, rather, game time keeps ticking up until it exceeds the stored value.

    Since these character quests run on in-game time, you could do some aimless travel to run out those timers while using up very little real time.
