How to install MODs on macOS?

in Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition
Dear all,

I would like to know how to properly install mods for BG and BG2 Enhanced Edition on macOS.
I am interested in a few specific ones but first I would like to know how to properly achieve that and also which ones are considered compatible.

    I use this tool. See also here for more information.

    Most of the big mods come with explicit Mac compatibility. You might not be able to get the latest version, but it's there. Even those that don't have it are likely to work when filtered through the WeiDu tool.
