[Infinite Dungeons] Not gaining rewards given by a NPC

A NPC wanted me to explore a certain area and joined me for that purpose. After I explored the area and talked to him again, he was satisfied and said "here is xxx gold and experience" and then left.

The issue is that I did not gain the gold and experience he gave me. My gold and experience remained the same.
