Game crash upon clicking "Baldur's Gate" in main menu

After a long wait a managed to download the 100MB patch and the beamdog client allowed me to launch the game. I get the menu screen and can play both tutorial and The Black Pits, however whenever I choose the original, the game crashes. There is no error, I just get the "not responding" windows massage and have to terminate the process. Can anyone help?
