Taskbar problems

Hi, all of a sudden baldurs gate 1&2 have an issue where if i bring my cursor to the task bar and click it minimises the game, i usually have my task bar on the right which means i can't select characters and moving it back down means i cannot choose items or spells to cast.
this is a recent problem for me but googling this problem shows threads from over three years ago and their answers are "restart game" or "alt tab" I have tried these and there is no change, help?
