Mods & Custom Portrait Q's for Mac OS Big Sur

I was hoping anyone could provide help and/or advice on if there were any mods that worked on a Mac while running Big Sur? Specifically a way to remove the XP cap, but also hoping for added content.
A secondary question was how to get custom portraits to work? I have the BMP files and tried the old trick of having three sizes (L, M, S) of each in order to work in game, but I still run into the issue of the portrait not showing up on the party member sidebar (but it does show up in the charname bio/stats page). Is the issue being I need a 32 bit image AND and 8 bit image for it to work?
Appreciate any help and insight. Just a warning I am ignorant and new to coding etc. but played BG2 years ago and wanted to give it another whirl but with some novel additions to keep it fresh.
