Trouble with multiplayer

Hey Guys, I need someone smarter than I to figure this out. I have played on a persistent world Kharlindale for a few years now. A couple months ago, they made the switch to NWN EE. The trouble I am having is being able to connect to the multiplayer option. It will not even populate the persistent worlds list. I was always able to connect when I was on the old diamond edition of the game. I think I am narrowing the problem down to the public network that I have access to most of the time and steam. The network I use does have some restrictions to more risky internet sites and such like most schools and libraries. Again, I never had a problem playing diamond edition on these same networks. I do have a VPN that I use w https://9apps.ooo/hen I want to do some of the more risky things and have tried to have it active and log on to NWN EE, but it is ineffective and often kills my wifi completley making me have to restart my laptop. I have run as admin, deleted NWN folder in documents. uninstalled/reinstalled, disabled defender, tried every connection option my vpn offers and no dice. When I do finally make it home on occasions, the game connects without problems. Please help. Tell me there is a way around this. Why would the old one work and now the new one doesnt?
