iPad Dream Request List

AndyXumaAndyXuma Member Posts: 5
From a thread I originally posted on /r/FriendsOfBaldursGate:

Here is some of the stuff I dream about seeing on the iPad version of BGEE.

* GameCenter integration for multiplayer

* Support for both landscape and portrait orientations

* iCloud integration

* Full CLUAConsole support

* An officially supported, integrated character / save game editor as an alternative to Shadowkeeper

* Implementation of an alternative, touch-screen interface to the cheat key combinations if the user has them enabled

* Option to play the complete BGEE soundtracks as background music while not playing BGEE

* Some nice BGEE wallpapers

* PDF versions of the game manuals and maps, that I can keep open on my reader while I play

* Transfer of files through WiFi as well, and not only through iTunes file sharing, for save games, character files, and mod files - including the option to share those files over WiFi directly with another iPad

* Multiplayer through Bluetooth as well as WiFi - so we can play in a group setting where there's no WiFi connectivity

    Hehe that is quite the list. I'm an iPad guy too and can't wait to play BG on ipad3.

    IMHO there isn't much hope for most of that list, except for the possibility that the save game files could me modded outside of the iPad with a custom utility. Perhaps there will be an integrated rated plugin download and activation module... That would be cool. Regardless, I would be happy just playing vanilla BG on the iPad. I can always play a modded version on my Mac/pc.

    New desktop pics with new artwork would be sweet!

    You kids and all these new, shiny devices. When I was a kid we had backwards caps, bikes, cassette tapes and Windows 95.

    Now we have inconvenient semi-portable ultra facebooking squares of immense power. I just can't keep up. I can't think of anything more horrible than spending $549 on a mass-consumeristic iPad and then playing a classic game such as Baldur's Gate on it. If I ever spent that kind of money on something I don't need, It'd be when it can make breakfast, or fill the void left by my seventh wife.

    Each to their own, I just wonder if this generation has their priorities straight.

    I'd rather play BG on my computer. I just have no interest in iPods, iPads, eBooks, or any other lowecased first letter uppercased second letter things.

    Really hope you are wrong! There are some tweets by Trent mentioning plans to enable mods on all platforms, and that is really unavoidable if multiplayer is to work cross-platform. The other requests on the list are really mostly UI, nothing really that difficult, I hope!

    @Ward
    Thanks for the "kids" assumption, hehe. If your memories of gaming as a kid are Windows 95, I believe the kid is you!!! When I was 13 I got my first real computer, an Atari 800... One year later I got to purchase for it an amazing peripheral device, a cassette recorder...!!! The iPad is an amazing gaming platform. More power to Trent, Cam and the BGEE dev team who can see this!!!

    That would be awesome if they make activating mods on ipad so easy. On PC/MAC using mods is not usually a straight forward process. I'm really looking forward to playing BG on RETINA :)

    @Ward lol I bet you had to run your LAN cables uphill both ways as well. in the snow. haha.

    But seriously for my 2cents I'd rather play it on PC as well but hey if these "kids" with their iThings open their "piggy banks" for Baldur's Gate EE then more power to them. The world will be a better place. And it's more likely that Beamdog will be able to make more of these wonderful games.

    @AndyXuma

    I'd bet all my cash that everyone here is an adult. Whether their behaviour or literacy says otherwise. NOO I'm kidding.

    No see, if I say 'adults these days' it ruins my speech. I can't seem to get my opinion across without including comedy (such as my seventh wife), things are too serious without some funny.

    But you will never win me over. I shall never indulge the new modern toys 'of the today'. I am sticking to my guns and spitting in Mr. HP's face by not buying a Vista, and Mr. Apple's face by not buying an iPad.

    My hatred for modern devices comes, not from my lack of appreciation, and complete awe, but from my ideals to not support these malicious corporate boogers that are Apple. Also, never buy Apples. I don't support the apple industry either, greedy pigs. One day I will buy an iPad, when they're dirt cheap on the internets.

    @Ward not an ipad... but any other tablet it's cheaper and you don't have to deal with apple, itunes and the iOS. An Android is a good solution, but I bet there's going to be alot of tablets with Windows 8 in the future.
