can you kill Jon Irenicus when first arrived to Spellhold in chapter 4?

I'm not surprised when that guy who pretending to be a Cowed Wizard had a voice of Jon Irenicus himself. I tried to hit him once and suprising he is vulnerable at best. Drain his hp in half and got my parties captured again lol. I want to know if we can kill this guy from here because I dont wanna to break my game

    He has an immortality item. You can't kill him. That's "can't", not "if you do, things break".
