I was experiencing horrible pauses when changing map or playing sounds etc, i discovered it was because I was using compression on the hard drive the game was on. It caused lots of random lag.
I also found that using any compatibility mode contributed to lag with Kresselaks tomb freezing every couple of steps with it on.
Now I'm on a heavily modded game and I've eliminated all the stutters I've encountered so far in the game.
