Side-By-Side Error: Crash to desktop every time

I have been trying to run this game on my Windows Vista 64-bit laptop, but whenever I click 'play' the loader closes and I head straight to desktop. I have tried running as admin, changing compatibility settings, and moving the folder into the C:/ drive from 'Program files'. When I try to launch from the baldur.exe file in the 007766 folder I get the error that the "side-by-side configuration is incorrect." In the event viewer it looked like this:

A component version required by the application conflicts with another component version already active. Conflicting components are:. Component 1: C:\Windows\WinSxS\manifests\x86_microsoft.vc90.crt_1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b_9.0.30729.1_none_e163563597edeada.manifest. Component 2: C:\Windows\WinSxS\manifests\x86_microsoft.vc90.crt_1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b_9.0.30304.0_none_d9c474bda3593bfa.manifest.

Has anyone else experienced this error? What could it all mean?

There's a conflict between two components of vc90, I had this problem and managed to find a fix on the Microsoft KB website, here's the link:
