Will my fighter/thief be able to use the high level abilities and proficiencies it gained before?

in Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition
I dont want the extra levels to go to waste (or the proficiencies btw i know the thief cant backstab with no thief weapons so i specialized in katana)

    Once you regain your fighter levels, all of those old proficiencies will be available again. High-level abilities should be usable even when the fighter class is inactive.
