When to dual-class into a Kensai/Mage?

Hello BG: EE community,
I am somewhat a noobie when it comes to the Baldur's Gate series, as I have only played them a long time ago in my youth, and this being the first time I'm replaying BG1, obviously because of the awesome BG:EE version that just came out, which I've been loving so far.
But to make my story short, my question is (playing as a Kensai Human), on what level is it best for me to dual-class into the infamous Kensai/Mage? Given the lower exp cap in BG1, is it even worth to dual class a Kensai at all? and if so, at what level should I do it?
