I can't find anything to check the current journal entry

I've been looking around and I can't find anything for checking your current progress in a journal/quest. Is there a function I'm missing or do I need to be setting my own variables for this?

Edit: This somehow didn't get posted in the Scripting section. Could someone move this there or delete it?

    There appears to be no way of getting the current progress in any journal entry so yes, you will need to set your own variables to keep track of this. The simplest way (and the one I prefer) is to give the PC an undroppable and unequippable item which is used to store any progress variables.
