Elven chain and Arcanist compatibility

It seems elven chain and similar armour only allows ordinary mages to cast in armour, but not arcanists. Does anyone know a way to remedy this?
(EET, mods to cast in armour with penalties also installed, elven chain and shadow armour from Dark Horizons, PC created as arcanist and then modified with EE Keeper to fighter/arcanist/thief)
