Garren Windspear hostile after rescuing his Daughter?

in Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition
Well, the title says it all. I got the journal update after killing Conster and talking to Garren's daughter, make the journey all the way back to Garren Windspear's cabin (5 times because I keep forgetting monsters respawn now). I enter the cabin, aaaand they're just hostile. Experimentally I attached them once before reloading, and they go down in one hit, but obviously I'm losing a ton of XP here. I reloaded back to the beginning of the quest once, and I get the same result. Party is currently (Charname), Minsc, Anomen, Jaheira, Yoshimo, Nalia. Shouldn't be any alignment conflicts.
