Day 42: Neera is Still Orange

That's right, she's been glowing orange for 42 days after casting Aganazzar's Scorcher. I don't think she will ever be normal again.

That's a fantastic discussion title. I actually have yet to experience a wild surge, thought I did just add lightning bolt to the spell book, with no level three spells. Nahal's, here we come.

First time with Neera.

Cast her level one wild magic spell to cast her big chaos shield spell. Cause it lets you do that even though she is level three!

Some weird stuff happens. Long story short. I gate in a Nabassu from the lower planes that then procedes to rip faces off all over Beregost.

Wild mages do be crazy.

That damn Nabassu. My tank, Khalid, just couldn't take the heat of having a bear chew his face off, and fled in an elf like fashion. The bear gives chase. "No big deal", I think to myself. The others can make short work of this grievously injured bear, and Khalid *probably* won't die from his near mortal wounds while he's manicly running around the forest like an elvish chicken with it's head cut off. But what's this?! In his thoughtless retreat, he'd stumbled upon a hobgoblin. Not a major threat, to be sure, but enough to finish off a mauled harper with a speech impediment. Okay, the bear is still trying to eat Khalid as well, lets try to quickly blast the hobgoblin with a spell before he can finish off my surprisingly still breathing fighter. All that's left in my parties collective spell repertoire is Neeras little wild surge spell. "Oh well", I say to myself (as the frequent deaths that come with playing a single classed mage has quickly reduced my sanity to the point where I'm muttering to myself like Tiax on crack), "the worst those wild surges have done so far is give me some berries and turn a giant spider into a wolf. I like berries, and the hobgoblin would probably enjoy being a wolf anyway. Lets give it a try!". I promptly hit the button, and watch as Neera "accidentally" tears open a gaping wound in reality, out of which steps a hulking nightmare cloaked in the gory entrails of a thousand weeping gamers. Khalid, still (and rightly so at this point!) panicking, is almost instantly devoured, stuttering soul and all, by this Beast. Jahiera, in her grief, rushes to embrace the gory remnants of her once living husband, and quickly joins him in the netherverse that is its gullet. Also, it eats the bear, because bears a delicious (I guess? I'm not a demon, I wouldn't know...). At this point, my party flees until this dark Godling (to whom I firmly believe my priest Branwen now worships as her deity) gets bored and tunnels back to whatever twisted reality spawned it.

Wild mages be crazy = truth.

Yeah, they're pretty nuts. That would be why wildmages who survived their own power long enough to become legendary created so many different spells to manage it.

One of my favorites is Hornung's Surge Selector. 7th level spell that gives you the ability to roll twice on the table per wild surge for every 5 caster levels and pick which surge you want. There's an awesome Wild Mage mod on IGN's NWVault that's been updated for the most recent build of Neverwinter Nights 2 with Storm of Zehir that's worth checking out if you love Wild Mages. Nothing like being able to choose whether you want to be turned to stone vs having a sex change, or shoot gems vs exploding, etc.

I had the same happen to my Neera as well, however it actually went away when she got charmed by Davaeorn >.>

Hahah that's awesome, I've only played with Neera for a short time, I kicked her out after one of her spells lost me over 1500 gold. It was at that point I said, "enough is enough! Good day to you miss"

An LPer's wild mage was red for a couple game months until another surge undid it.

I had this. Try using dispel magic. I had to doom her then buy it in a temple and it went away.

Oh dear. That happened to my CHARNAME on a playthrough of BGII years ago. If I remember correctly the only thing that ended up being able to fix it was getting hit by a high level magic removal spell or ability. For me it was a beholder's eyebeam in the Underdark. I hope you can fix it. I remember spending half of that playthrough being bright orange.

Tip: if you gate in a Demon quickly cast protection from evil so have your who you can.

I cast Barkskin (Branwen) on Neera after she became orange and then Dispel Magic with my Inquisitor char, she became normal again after that! Should work with other spells that change appearance and maybe with a dispel magic from a temple priest!

Neera has had a few wild-magic mishaps for me such as fireballing the entire party instead of sleeping the enemies (resulted in everyone but Jaheria dying), what looks like the hold person spell cast on herself (though no apparent effect), and sex change self (though she made the save). Though if she hadn't made the save, my Half-elf ranger would have had an interesting romance for sure...

Would be a really cool idea to code in some dialogue that recognizes these things. Like Neera complaining about being unable to fall asleep due to glowing, and the party being angry at her for the sex-change or dropping a cow on their heads, that would be awesome in BG2:EE
