CD Key or player name Mismatch

I read through the forms and saw how a solution can be to change the player name under the nwn.ini or the nwnplayer.ini but I do not see or understand how to do this. Additionally, another solution was to reach out to the server to have this resolved as well but this is again something I do not know how to do. Could I have some assistance in this?
