Hmm... in DDO, monks are still considered "balanced" when wearing robes. I have no idea how faithful to 3E it is though.
And I can see ONE advantage to making a fighter->monk dual : you'll get a bit more HP (1d10 instead of 1d8, plus the Con bonus). Actually there's a second one, exceptional strength, but the plethora of strength-increasing items in BG2 makes it kinda moot.
Well, rather than stick to AD&D (though I like many things in AD&D and like much but really not everything in later editions) I'd go with D&D 3.0 there, FRCS page 25 f. "monastic orders" that rules very specific exceptions for certain class combinations in Faerun which happens to be the continent Baldur's Gate plays in.

The new character depicted in the new portrait probably represents a Monk (Order of the Sun Soul) imho. Maybe he will be able to dual-class as described at FRCS page 25 ... We will see :-)
wouldnt a character who had some sort of specialist mage grow to level 13 or so, so they have 3 level 6 spells, so they can cast tenser's transformation on themselves ( when they become a monk that is) then the monk would have double hit points an extra attack per round i believe plus to hit and damage, and so forth, plus he could use stoneskin and mirror image or even protection from magical weapons, so a mage dual classed into a monk could be quite powerful indeed, is it really necessary to find more class combos that are extremely powerful? or more class combos that are restrictive as hell, but fun? to me, dealing 100 damage a hit 5 times a round is not fun when your enemies at most have a couple hundred HP, plus class combos to be completely invincible ( like kensai/mage) i think is plain balls retarded derp derp, i did that once and was like wow, this is ridiculous why so invincible, isnt the game supposed to be challengin? isnt that why we play games, to be challenged because that is where the fun is, or do we play games where we take our willies out and have people stroke them for us because we're to lazy to play real games that have real challenges? or am i just on crack?
