The screen is black

When I play, I can see the bars on the sides and bottom, but the rest of the screen is completely black.
(not unlike that, except I can't even see the characters:

I play on a Dell laptop, Inspiron 1521, with Windows Vista.

    I have similiar problem ... direct change doesn't work (updating drivers too)

    Same exact problem. Windows XP SP2, ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650.

    Very same problem, independent of chosen screen res. BGEE v 1.0.2012 Windows Vista, ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650!

    after an update to the most recent ati driver this problem does not appear any more. However found the next bug. For half of the items, when I click on them in the inventory the mouse pointer disappears and only after restart is back again

    I'm not sure, but maybe enabling/disabling "disable hardware cursor" (or something like that) in the game options?
