What are some preferred/popular melee weapons?

I'm attempting to make some specialty weapons in my module. I'd like to get some ideas on popular melee weapons - including ideas for class/build weapons.

    Greatswords are usually a popular choice, although I usually go for the Sword and Shield option, with either Longsword or Bastard Sword depending on whether I'm playing a Fighter or a Paladin. When I roll Barbarians, I almost always go with Greataxe. Other than that, don't forget to add in some Daggers/Staves (for Mages), Maces/Warhammers (for priestly types) and Shortswords/Rapiers for Rogue types.
