SOD bug: Leaving Baldurs Gate cutscene doesn't progress

So I left Baldurs Gate and watched the cutscene with Irenicus and Caelar and then it switched back to my party but the game seems stuck in this position without any ability to do anything other than kill the program via task manager.

What I notice in this situation is that my main character isn't present, only the 4 other characters in my party. I tried removing my boots of speed and moved my mainchar back to position 1 in the party as read elsewhere it could fix some bugged scenes.

    When I've run into broken cutscenes like this, I've usually gotten through them by just reloading the save and trying again. Most of the time, it's a transient glitch rather than a repeatable bug.

    Basically, something broke and the cutscene stopped executing actions. This meant that it never reached the crucial EndCutSceneMode() action to return control to you. And actually, I can pin down pretty well exactly where it broke this time.
    From bdcut11, the scene in which Caelar meets the Hooded Man:
    ...
    		SmallWait(7)
    		RestorePartyLocations()
    		MultiPlayerSync()
    		FadeFromColor([20.0],0)
    		EndCutSceneMode()
    END

    RestorePartyLocations() was executed, because you're not out by that rock - the party is technically present but invisible for that scene. EndCutSceneMode() wasn't executed, because you didn't get control back.

    Checking your log ... almost certainly irrelevant. None of those mods should do anything to the SoD cutscenes.

    Is this a problem with EET or SOD in general? I definitely tried reloading many times and didn't get any progress. Tried different things. Eventually I teleported party to the next area and forced the game to progress 1 chapter. I think my problem now will be that the game still has the Baldurs Gate world map instead of the next world map. That said, Ive only explored the single map past that point (South Coast Way I think) so if there was a way to fix this bug I would go back.

    The only other thing I can think of is that after the "small wait" which I guess is the 7 seconds of faded screen or whatever I can only see 4 party members instead of 5, charname appears to be missing. Is it possible that is the problem?

    If it's repeatable, that means something's broken in your installation. Once is a glitch. Every time isn't.

    A SmallWait is denominated in "ticks" - the smallest unit of time the game can handle, normally one fifteenth of a second. That particular wait is only about half a second. No, the faded screen is a different pair of actions FadeToColor([20.0],0) before the excerpt I included above and FadeFromColor([20.0],0) in it. Between 20 ticks for each of those actions and 22 more from various SmallWait actions between them, that's at least four seconds of the fade in/fade out block.

    And actually, you saw it fade back in? It looks like literally everything but the final EndCutSceneMode() action ran. That's where it broke. Which doesn't make sense to me at all. I'm stumped.

    Thanks for explaining all of that I really appreciate it. I thought I could fix it via console somehow but only time I can access the console is after the brief interaction where you leave the city (when you can talk to the people about if you're a bhaalspawn or not). But yes, the whole cutscene runs except for where it goes back to the party and they are all standing in a vertical line except mainchar is absent and I can't do anything the game is just stuck.

    Is it fixable? Should I look at the cutscene file to see if anything is missing? Replace the cutscene file with a file from a backup install?

    Does pressing escape to skip the cutscene work?

    It didn't no. In the end I made a new character and updated all the stats to be identical and moved my save game into a multiplayer game and switched the character in and deleted the old character which fixed the problem. Must have had some weird flags or affects from messing around getting the kits to work how I wanted them to work.
