Climb Wall Ability

elminsterelminster Member, Developer Posts: 16,317
I know Climb Wall's wasn't implemented into the original game because it is a 2D environment, but it would be kind of neat if it could be. Have it maybe for Monk's, so that they can do bonus damage like thieves. I know monk's eventually get really powerful, but its just a thought.

and where are they supposed to climb upto? Imagine this.... A 2d creature that levitates up/ down a 2d tree

This will depend of what graphical implement we get on the game and what the new infinite engine can do.

I have no opinion at the moment, if it's something that integrate the new game environment, by nature they will implement this feature even if we don't ask.

Another idea that would be cool, but it's just too much to ask and implement. Would need to reshape all the playable areas, almost like recreating them... Not to mention figuring out how to use it.

Instead of climbing walls, Monks will be able to phase through reality and move through seemingly solid barriers. This is accomplished by turning off the walk mesh and just letting them freeball around the level.

Well you don't see thieves or monk's scurrying into the nearest shadow. Nor do I see it particularly realistic for NPC's exchanging inventories to do so as far away from each other as they can (unless they are all professional sword catchers) So there is only so much they can do animation/gameplay wise for any ability. I suppose in Baldur's Gate 2 there aren't enough walls to even make such an ability useful, but at the very least I think since it is mentioned in the manual it would be nice if it was in some way addressed in the remake.

If elminster thinks it's possible, maybe it is.

Ultimately I think the problem is that it's just not feasible, it would require a fairly substantial rework of parts of the game to implement.

    lol yes it might.
but I don't see how this wall climbing can be implemented at all. If the monk is near a wall he gets bonuses?

Not sure how this would work or be useful, could be pretty cool in some of the newer games but not so much in BG I or II
