Here from reddit

Yeah, so the reddit BG forums are gone, at least temporarily - I think it's some sort of a protest thing about some policy changes over there. Anyway, this site comes up a lot when I search stuff about Baldur's Gate, so I came here...

I've beaten BG many times, I play it SCS/Inane, mostly with no re-reloads; it's kind of like a comfort food for me at this point, so I still keep playing it while listening to youtube or podcasts or something when I have some time to kill.

Are you looking forward to playing BG3 when it comes out this year?

I plan to play it. In fact I started playing the older BG series a few years ago because there was a lot of talk about BG3 at the time so I decided to check out the earlier games.

I don't usually play big games and I'm not big on creating builds, but the previews of this game looked pretty good

@ibutter In the BG games you don't have to create builds, you can, but you can also pick a class for your main character based on your personal taste and RP, roll few times for the stats, take the better roll as it is, or maybe swapping some stat points (a fighter needs str and con, a mage needs int, a cleric needs wis) and play the game.
And setting the right difficulty level you can RP it, living and enjoying a new adventure without bothering on power gaming, if you like so. Picking the NPCs that better fit with your RP and Charname's alignment.
Or you can ramp up the difficulty or even play LoB difficulty or mod the game to be very hard to play and power play it, then good stats and build are relevant, you can even build your 5 or 6 custom characters in multiplayer then import a save in single player so you can have exactly the dream power party you want, maybe 5 so you have a place for a NPC and rotating them you can do their personal quests.

It is a big game, if you play from Candlekeep to the Throne of Baal is a long adventure, but also here you don't have to play all the possible quests, some parts of the game are more linear but particularly in chap.2 of SoA you have to get some money for a certain task
rescue a NPC that is close to you RP wise
and you have to do it to progress into the game, but there are a lot of quests, you can play only a fraction of that chapter, get enough money and be fine.

You can also play each phase of the saga as a stand alone game as you can start in BG1, SoD, SoA or ToB and the end of each one can be the end of the game if you don't like big games or the starting point of the next phase of a large saga.

This game does not force you to play it in a certain way but let you play it at your own pace and style, you can be obsessed with builds, perfect stats and party optimization or completely ignore them, you can set the difficulty to have tactic, strategy and game mechanics knowledge very relevant or just play a big adventure in a more casual and relaxed way.

Any way you will do you will have fun, if a +20 years old game is still played today there is a reason why...
