SCS can't decide between wild mage and fighter/mage :D

Hello!
I want to do a trilogy run because i never finished ToB and to experience a very interesting magic system, last time i played it as a kid i was more into story and so played on story-easy difficulty and just smashed everything :D. This time i would like to play more of a caster but it's kind of hard to choose :D I'm more interested in casting spells and think wild surge is fun BUT being able to use weapons like celestial fury or FOA and hit with weapons in melee when i don't want to waste spells, more HP and wear helmets, gauntlets etc AND fail back on melee when i make mistake is very appealing BUT slower leveling, delayed access to higher spell level, lower mage level and less spell slots not so much :D

at this point, I'm just restarting re-rolling over and over and switching between these two :D
even tried dual but at low levels it doesn't seem worth it and at higher i'm playing pure fighter whole bg1.

any advice? :)

I don't think it's really the class choice that's the issue. Either's fine, and you seem to have found fun both ways ... but you just keep restarting. You need to find something else to tie things together, and make you feel invested in the run. Maybe a role-playing concept, or a theme? If you care more about this particular character and their story, you're more likely to keep going with it.

I think you want F/T more than wild mage from what you said. Ignore the stupid wild stuff and take Edwin who is broken.

just do a half-elf fighter/mage but use EEkeeper to change it to dwarf fighter/wild mage with the appropriate changes to race, stats, and appearance and whatever.

The F/M is the classic class of sword and magic that can absolutely get through the entire series. While the wild mage is quite different from a F/M.

    An alternative for you:

You might consider a Cleric/Mage multi-class instead - has all the mage spells you want, if you delay HLA it works out better for C/M; if needed the C/M can tank and use FoA and other great weapons and really get into melee with the proper buffs against bosses and if you just want to bash the random bandit - the C/M is more than capable of doing that without any buffs.

Plus as a C/M you have access to all the wands in the game - so if you dont want to waste a spell just fire off a charge from a wand.

Now if you really want to have HP and better THACO then you can do the F/M/C - if you are going through the trilogy there is enough EXP to level up and by the time you get to SoA you should be on the way to being powerful - of course due to the slow leveling you will need a party (although probably not a full 6 although that should generally work as well).

If you want a wild mage then just take Neera - unless you want to use certain wild mage mods to personally experience unique spells /items just for a wild mage and of course the crazy mishaps with spell casting that being a wild mage brings to the game in general.
